High Performance: The Key Is Adhesion
The longevity of any coating system is governed by one critical factor: adhesion. If the primer fails to adhere to the substrate, the entire system will fail regardless of how good the topcoat is. Traditional primers depend on mechanical adhesion, which requires blasting or etching to create a rough surface profile. NanoPrime™ takes a different approach, using a chemical bond to secure the coating to metal and concrete surfaces.
Because NanoPrime chemically bonds with the substrate, greater adhesion is achieved and greater adhesion translates directly into durability. The primer reacts at the molecular level with the surface, forming a bond that resists peeling and delamination. This strong adhesion allows the coating system to withstand vibration, thermal cycling and other stresses that would cause mechanically bonded coatings to fail.
NanoPrime’s patented chemistry distinguishes it from conventional primers. Whereas typical coatings rely on a mechanical bond to adhere to the substrate, NanoPrime forms a chemical bond that provides superior adhesion and corrosion resistance. This chemical bond eliminates the need to etch aluminum or roughen steel and galvanized surfaces, making surface preparation faster and safer. It also enables the primer to bond effectively to smooth, previously painted or oxidized substrates.
The chemically bonded layer created by NanoPrime is insoluble and highly corrosion resistant. By reacting with iron and iron oxide, the primer forms iron phosphate and stops under‑film corrosion. The resulting coating is flexible and durable across a wide temperature range, ensuring that thermal expansion or contraction does not compromise adhesion.
High performance is also about compatibility. NanoPrime forms an excellent foundation for a variety of high‑performance top coats, many of which have been tested and qualified for use over the primer. Whether the project calls for epoxy, polyurethane or polysiloxane finishes, the chemical bond provided by NanoPrime ensures that the entire system performs as intended.
What makes this performance even more impressive is that it comes from a water‑based, environmentally friendly formulation. NanoPrime contains no VOCs or heavy metals and is non‑toxic and non‑flammable. In a world where environmental regulations are tightening, achieving top‑tier adhesion and durability without hazardous chemicals is a key advantage.
